Field Trip Information
Summit South organizes field trips for students and their family members throughout the year. Information about each event, along with others in the homeschool community, will be posted under Events section on the website.
Signup Procedure
Most field trip signups will be handled through Google forms linked in the weekly newsletters, and families will receive information by email and newsletter. Signup and payment deadlines must be met in order to attend the event.
Payment Procedure
Most field trip costs may be paid by cash, check, or card at the front desk. Make checks out to JASH and write the name of the trip in the memo. Other events may require payment onsite. This information will be spelled out in the description for each trip.
Refund Policy
Summit South purchases tickets or arranges the field trip classes, tours, etc., ahead of time. Everyone who signs up for a ticketed event is expected to pay for their reservations. Changes may be made up to the signup deadline. If you sign up to go and then are unable to attend, you may find someone to take your place, but you will not be refunded for the event once tickets have been purchased.
Sports
Summit Academy South does not have a sports program and has been designated as a “school without a program” by the Colorado High School Activities Association. Therefore, our students may participate in sports at other schools per the guidelines below. The school you choose to participate with has discretion to allow or not allow homeschooled students to participate. The same guidelines apply to both part-time and full-time students.
Students may participate in sports at any high school in their district of attendance (Jefferson County) or in their district of residence.
If a student chooses to skip 8th grade to enroll in 9th grade at SAS, the student must participate in sports and activities at the high school level. They may not participate on an 8th-grade team.
Students have 8 semesters of high school eligibility. The first semester that they are registered as a 9th grader starts their eligibility clock, whether or not they choose to play a sport.
Summit South encourages students to participate in sports programs and is appreciative of schools that provide the opportunity for our students to play. However, missing an SAS class for practice is discouraged. Summit South classes are one day per week. Parents are expected to notify coaches of Summit South’s position and request that the student be allowed to arrive at practice late on Tuesdays or Thursdays. In most cases the student would only be missing a few minutes. Students may register for a P.E. credit at SAS in order to allow them to leave during 6th period for sports practices. Please email Allycia Taussig at ataussig@jeffcoschools.us to explore this option.
